New paper on global wildfire modeling by the EOWAVE team
The EOWAVE team authored a first common paper on how to realistically simulate wildfire burned area. A new modeling concept was developed to predict burned area from satellite and climate observations. By using this new fire model, we are able to identify the role of climate, vegetation and humans on wildfire activity. The paper was led by Matthias Forkel and has been published in Geoscientific Model Development Discussions where it is now available for an open scientific discussion for six weeks:
